Might be shell or stone. Could be a calcareous stone such as a limestone or marble. Russell feather, a gemologist with the Smithsonian has examined these objects and states that they are not mineral. Dr. Jerry Harasewych, a specialist in mollusks, studied these objects and was unable to identify them as shell (1992). At the Smithsonian John Verano and Douglas Ubelaker examined one of the ear ornaments (PC.B.451) using their microscope. They were able to observe that the inclusions were man-made inlay and that the surface of the material looked organic. Together they determined that the pink material is possibly polished bone or antler (1992). Object was weighed in June 2016 with electronic scale (Swiss made: Mettler Toledo PB3002-S/FACT Topload Balance, from the B-S/FACT series), previous weight on record was 582.3g", "Images": [ { "ImagePath" : "https://webkiosk.gallerysystems.com/Media/images/PC.B.450.S2.jpg", "ThumbnailPath" : "https://webkiosk.gallerysystems.com/Media/Thumbnails/PC.B.450.S2.jpg", "PreviewPath" : "https://webkiosk.gallerysystems.com/Media/Previews/PC.B.450.S2.jpg", "IIIF_URL": "http://iiif.gallerysystems.com/PC.B.450.S2.jpg", "IsPrimary" : "0", "_SurrogateID" : "24", "Image_Type" : "", "Photo_Credit" : "", "Remarks" : "", "View" : "" } , { "ImagePath" : "https://webkiosk.gallerysystems.com/Media/images/PC.B.450.S1.jpg", "ThumbnailPath" : "https://webkiosk.gallerysystems.com/Media/Thumbnails/PC.B.450.S1.jpg", "PreviewPath" : "https://webkiosk.gallerysystems.com/Media/Previews/PC.B.450.S1.jpg", "IIIF_URL": "http://iiif.gallerysystems.com/PC.B.450.S1.jpg", "IsPrimary" : "1", "_SurrogateID" : "19624", "Image_Type" : "", "Photo_Credit" : "", "Remarks" : "", "View" : "" } , ] },{ "embark_ID" : 23026, "URL" : "https://webkiosk.gallerysystems.com/Objects-1/info/23026", "Disp_Access_No" : "PC.B.062", "_AccNumSort1" : "", "Disp_Create_DT" : "400-600 CE", "_Disp_Start_Dat" : "400", "_Disp_End_Date" : "600", "Disp_Title" : "Net-Jaguar Mural", "Alt_Title" : "", "Obj_Title" : "", "Series_Title" : "", "Disp_Maker_1" : "", "Sort_Artist" : "", "Disp_Dimen" : "72.71 cm x 212.41 cm (28 5/8 in. x 83 5/8 in.)", "Disp_Height" : "72.71 cm", "Disp_Width" : "212.41 cm", "Dimen_Extent" : "", "Medium" : "Fresco", "Support" : "", "Disp_Medium" : "Fresco", "Info_Page_Comm" : "One of a pair that flanked a palace door, this mural depicts an anthropomorphic jaguar following a path marked by footprints leading to a temple at the left.
