Description
The Italian-born Frederico (Rico) Lebrun immigrated to California in 1938. He had a lifelong affinity for the art of Francisco de Goya and Pablo Picasso. In 1939 and 1940, Lebrun made a number of ink sketches of nude or nearly nude figures in somewhat twisted poses, often under the influence of Picasso’s 1937 Guernica. In 1940 he worked as an animation instructor at Disney Studios, which might have influenced many of these drawings.
