Hartman Schedel (1440-1514) was a German historian and geographer who published the Liber Chronicarum (also known as the Nuremburg Chronicle) in 1493. This was one of the earliest works of urban topography that includes a large number of very detailed woodcuts illustrating cities of the known world and was described as an "outline of Western History from the creation of the Biblical patriarch named Adam." Editions of this publication survived the great "book burning" campaign issued by the Papal Bull order of AD 1501.
