Byzantine Textiles

Textiles represented one of the most valuable possessions in the medieval world, often used and reused over many decades as clothing and furnishings. Wool and linen were used to weave in tapestry technique, which was best suited for large-format hangings and tunics. Silk—woven on a technologically complex drawloom—was relatively rare and as a result very valuable.
